Supplier portrait: Frøslev Træ — timber with its papers in order

4 July 2026 · LLD Enterprise

When we say materials we know and makers we can call, we mean something concrete. This series is about the manufacturers we actually build with — one at a time. We start with the timber.

Who is Frøslev?

Frøslev Træ A/S has worked with wood since 1931. The company is family-owned, based in Padborg in Southern Jutland, and is today Denmark’s largest producer and supplier of timber for construction — from facade cladding, decking and structural timber to floors, panels and acoustic solutions. They are also Denmark’s only certified producer of ThermoWood, the heat-treated, Nordic Swan-labelled timber that handles the Danish climate without chemical impregnation.

This is not a wholesaler with a warehouse. It is a manufacturer where the timber is processed in Denmark, staffed by people who have spent their working lives understanding how wood behaves — including twenty years after installation.

Why we build with them

We do not choose suppliers by the catalogue. We choose them by how they behave when something needs to be delivered, clarified or last twenty years:

  • Direct technical access. Frøslev calls itself a knowledge partner, and it is not empty talk. We can call the production directly and get answers to detail questions: fixings, ventilation gaps, end-grain treatment, movement in the wood. That means we can design and install exactly as the product is engineered — not as a rule of thumb suggests.
  • Documentation in a class of its own. Product-specific EPDs, declarations of performance, strength and heat-treatment certificates, installation guides and warranty terms are public and current. When we hand over your project file, Frøslev’s documentation is in it — traceable down to the product.
  • Danish production, short distances. The timber is processed in Padborg. That means short supply lines, Danish service, and a supplier that still exists — and can still deliver the same profile cut — the day you want to build on.

What we use them for

Wood enters almost every project type we deliver: decking and facade cladding on extensions, ThermoWood where timber must endure weather without chemicals, floors, mouldings, ceiling and wall panels indoors, and acoustic solutions where a room needs beautiful damping. Which range enters your project depends on the package — but the producer is the same from Essential to Signature, because the quality of the hidden work is not something we negotiate.

Untreated timber patinates naturally to a beautiful silver-grey — as here in the dunes. That kind of ageing is a quality, not a defect, when the wood and the installation are right.

How we work with them

Before we build, we align the detail solutions with Frøslev’s people: substrates, spacing, fixings and surface treatment per their installation guides. That sounds obvious. In this industry it is not. A timber product installed outside its specification ages worse and can lose its warranty — so we build it as it is designed, and document it in your project file.

Frequently asked questions

Can I choose a different timber brand? Yes. Our catalogue is the starting point, not a requirement — but if you choose from the catalogue, we stand behind delivery, installation and warranty as one combined re
